Facebook Profile Hijacked. Ransom For Profile’s safe return. Seriously ?
I had heard of stories of facebook being hacked or password stolen. Here in my university, i see people being Facebook Rapped. But Facebook Profile being hijacked and a ransom being demanded for its safe return ? Now that is news to everyone.
According to New York Post Beauty’s Facebook hijack ordeal Paul Franco hijacked hisnow ex-girl friend Zamora-Anderson’s Facebook profile after she broke up with him.
A Queens man took his girlfriend’s Facebook account hostage, changed her sexual preference to gay, and demanded cash for her profile’s safe return, authorities said yesterday.
But Paul Franco’s bizarre manipulations backfired when his stunned gal pal went to cops and had him arrested on Feb. 10 on charges of coercion and harassment, according to a spokeswoman for DA Richard Brown.
“My family convinced me to go to police,” said Jessica Zamora-Anderson, a native of Guatemala. “Half the people in my country have heard about this. It’s destroyed my life.”
They had met online on facebook itself about a year ago, where 29 year old Franco had posed as a English teacher. They broke up as his true identity came to light along with his bad temper. The relation ship was already getting sour previously which even had led them to go to court. He had also black mailed her earlier over some “tapes” but that is not the issue here.
The question is, has the online information/blog/profile become such a personal possession that you can get blackmailed over it ? Is it that important. I always thought online information could be easily replaced. I have done that quite some times now.
Ok and if it a bit important, i know some people spend a lot of time on their profile, making it look it different, have so many different posts and pictures. In that i think the social network has to play a role in sorting such problems out. From my personal experince, they are a bit slow but that was 2 years ago. No i was not hacked but .. it was something else.
Anyhow, glad she reported to the authority. Crazy Nut Case person, don’t know what else will he dot. Till then
