Scan Your Thumb Drive for Viruses from the AutoPlay Dialog
It’s always a good idea to scan flash drive to the virus when you use it on your PC. Today we look at how to use Microsoft Security Essentials for the USB scanner via the AutoPlay dialog box.
If you have not already done so, download and install Microsoft Security Essentials
Next download the “mseautoplay.zip / em> (link below). Unzip the file to view its contents.
Then move the file msescan.vbs / script em> in the Windows directory.
Next double-click the file mseautoplay.reg …
Click Yes to the warning dialog asking you if you are sure you want to add to the registry.
After it is added, you receive a confirmation message … click OK.
Now when you insert a thumb drive when AutoPlay is in place, you have options for the first scan with MSE.
MSE begins analyzing the USB …
You can use it to scan all removable media. Here is an example of the ability to scan a DVD with MSE before opening the files.
You can also go into the Control Panel and set it as a default option for automatic reading. Open the Control Panel, Display with large icons and click AutoPlay.
Note that now when you change the default options for different types of media, Scanning with ESM is now included in the dropdown.
delete settings
If you want to delete the MSE AutoPlay Handler, Ramesh has been kind enough to create a registry file discard. Double-click Undo.reg from the original file AutoPlay MSE and click Yes to the message to delete the parameter.
Then you’ll need to go into the Windows directory and manually delete the file msescan.vbs / script em>.
This is a great thing that you can scan your pen drives and other removable media of the AutoPlay dialog box. We tested it on XP, Vista and Windows 7 and it works perfectly on each.
