Facebook advertises its own similar rival, FolkDirect.com

Recently i was browsing  Facebook when i came across this. I thought it was some kind of a joke but then i realized, why would some one like Facebook ever make a joke such as this. ( i think i was pretty much still wacked up from last night from even thinking that it might be a joke.)

Anyhow i clicked on the advert, as you can see below.

Clicking on it, led me straight to folkdirect.com

Here you can that it not only is a facebook rival, it has actually taken great measures to make it look exactly like facebook.

And for a kicker, it states its features as reasons to join.

folkdirect is a secure social site with walls, groups, chat, blogs, online gaming and robust privacy controls that you control. Your details will not be used for advertising and there are no 3rd party apps phishing your data. Join and use for free now!

Now that is pretty good way to advertise your site. Not only are you offering such features, which have been deeply criticized by the public for their rival, but also advertise itself on them.

I found it pretty funny. What do you think ?

    It’s a great site, me and my friends have all moved over there. I guess if Facebook are ok with them advertising on there then why not. The site on the inside doesn’t look like Facebook, but has a lot of good features.

    Wouldn’t say they’re rivals – facebook will ALWAYS be #1… it has 500 million users! But I can’t see a problem with alternatives if you’re fed up with privacy issues, or policy changes on other networks. folkdirect is a nice little site and is doing what it says it should on its front page

    They’re paying Facebook, that’s all Facebook cares about. http://www.folkdirect.com is a really good site and was in another article yesterday for being one of the best viable alternatives to Facebook.
