What shade of green are you while you drive?
According to UN's recent report, World's population is going to hit 7 billion this October. The population has been growing exponentially and it has put a considerable stress on the planet we live on. With limited resources and massive consumption, we are heading for something ugly. It takes millions of years to replaces fossil fuels and the amount of CO2 in the air keeping on increasing, soon it will be above the threshold limit (amount that can by recycled by the planet).
Cars, especially those that run on no renewable energy, are generally blamed by the people. in 2006 alone, London transport produced 9.6mm tonnes of CO2 emissions. That is a lot considering that they are just not ruining the environment but also guzzling up all that non renewable resources. As an alternative people have been putting forward hybrids and electric cars. They may sound as a good alternative but fact is that they are too in the same boat, producing similar amount of CO2 emissions and consuming similar amount of our resources(hey electricity has to be generated by burning something as well).
So what is the solution?
After all this, one will ask, so what is the solution to this. Should we stop driving cars and just walk. As much as that sounds as a good idea, it is not practical at all. And no I am not saying that electric and hybrids are a bad choice, what I am trying to say is that cars of today have been designed by companies to actually be more efficient in reducing CO2 and using less fuel. Their carbon ratings come to as same amount as the electric and hybrid ones.
The cars you buy today are greener than the ones they have been replacing. For example, it would take 200 modern cars to produce the same emissions as a Form Fiesta from 1976. That is a HUGE difference and certainly works in our favour, esp when our population is spiralling out of control. You can call these the eco cars, with upto 20 percent less CO2 emissions and 15 percent less fuel consumption than previous models, they are the safer bet for us. With such eco trims, these cars can make a huge impact. Here is a little video that can help explain it a little bit better.

Ford C-MAX and MSN
Ford C-MAX and MSN have launched an online campaign to highlight the environmental impact the car industry has had in the past and how these standards are improving. It contains detailed info graphics and a lot more information with actual statistics, for those who like to look at factual details rather than claims. Check it out here at Msn Ford C-Max.
In end it depends how green your car is. So what shade of green are you?
