Anyone who has used extension in Firefox knows CoolPreviews wonderful preview window can be. Now you can get the same kind of functionality in Chrome with extension ezLinkPreview.

Note: Extension does not work on websites containing Buster “framework” code (the URL navigate occur).

Before

Normally, if you want to have a better appearance to a particular Web page the only option you have is to move forward and open a new tab or window. But it would certainly be nice to be able to take a quick “preview” before hand …

After

Once you have completed the installation of any extension is ready to go … just refresh the page open before installation and enjoy the goodness of preview. when you place your mouse near any link you will notice a small “Preview Button” appears with the letters “EZ” inside.

Click the Preview button “to open the popup window. Now you can get a very good idea of whether the page is worth visiting or not.

Here’s a closer look at the popup window. Note that you can see the URL of the Web page and access a practical set of buttons on the right side (open a new tab, Pine keep open cover, and close). You can even resize the window as you want to better meet your needs (you can actually enter one of the four corners to resize the popup window).

It is also possible to open a preview window “in the popup window … you can see the” Preview Button “here …

If you have maximized Chrome, you can enjoy using a large preview window size. “Now, how nice!

How Much Memory is being used?

Here is a test page

Access Chrome’s Task Manager using the Page Menu -> Developer -> Task manager.

Or right click  Tab Bar and select Task manager.

Here you can see the Memory usage on a idle browser. Certainly a killer because not all the extensions are being used at the time.

You can get more than just the memory consumption.

For our example Shared Memory & Private Memory.

Want even more detail? Type “about:memory” into the Address Bar and press Enter.

The Difference with the Extensions Disabled

The Task Manager Window is looking rather empty now but the memory consumption has definitely seen an improvement.

Comparing Memory Usage for Two Extensions with Similar Functions

For our next step we decided to compare the memory usage for two extensions with similar functionality. This can be helpful if you are wanting to keep memory consumption trimmed down as much as possible when deciding between similar extensions.

First up was Speed Dial.

The stats for Speed Dial…quite a change from what was shown above (~3,000 – 6,000 K).

Next up was Incredible StartPage.

Surprisingly both were nearly identical in the amount of memory being used.

Purging Memory

Perhaps you like the idea of being able to “purge” some of that excess memory consumption. With a simple command switch modification to Chrome’s shortcut(s) you can add a Purge Memory Button to the Task Manager Window as shown below. Notice the amount of memory being consumed at the moment…

One quick click and there is a noticeable drop in memory consumption.

Are you worried that you kids might be getting exposed to the dangers out there on the Internet. There have been increases in lots of child related cases that started from the Internet. As a parent, it is one of the foremost duty that one should protect their kids from the on line dangers.  Plus with so much mature content out there that is easily available to view, it can be a nightmare for the parents to supervise on line time for their kids.

Now for a really bad site, the whole screen will black out. Here for instance, hotbabes.com (certainly not for kids).

Please notice the two links at the bottom of the ratings screen Both will be visible if the “Allow entering unsafe sites Option” is not disabled.

Here is the  “Allow entering unsafe sites Option” disabled.

Clicking on the “Find Kids Sites Link” will navigate the tab to the Yahoo! Kids website.

The extension will also place “ratings buttons” beside search results at Google.

I rely on Google Chrome’s Spell Checker a lot. It is a definitely a  life saver. Especially when I am writing a new post. ( No one likes a Post full of spellings errors).

However just this morning, I realized the Google Chrome highlights Google as a misspelled name itself.  In fact even right now, as I am typing this post, the word google is highlighted all over. And not it is not correct even when I use a capital G in the word Google. It is still Wrong. Ironic ?

Here is a screen shot I took when I discovered that Google is being misspelled. I tried looking up suggestions but Google was not one of those words.
